EASA Publishes Third and Final AI Concept Paper for Comment

EASA has published Issue No. 3 of its proposed concept for the use of artificial intelligence in aviation, opening it for public comment. The agency described it as the final concept paper foreseen under the EASA Artificial Intelligence Roadmap 2.0.

The new issue broadens the framework of technical guidance to cover additional AI techniques, including reinforcement learning and symbolic AI. It also examines Level 3 AI applications, which correspond to advanced automation. According to EASA, such applications open the way to novel types of operations in which the human end user may be either remotely present or not present at all during the operation.

Once comments have been consolidated, EASA said it will continue working with stakeholders in support of the AI strategy for aviation. Comments on Issue No. 3 are due by August 12, 2026.
